Amy Allison, based in New York City, is a critically acclaimed songwriter and singer noted for her originality, depth and cult following. She began her performing career on the lower east side of Manhattan in the late ‘80’s fronting The Maudlins.
The daughter of late jazz/blues artist Mose Allison, Amy has released 5 solo albums (The Maudlin Years, Sad Girl, No Frills Friend, Everything and Nothing Too and Sheffield Streets) and 3 collaborations- two as half of Parlor James, a duo formed with Lone Justice founder Ryan Hedgecock (Dreadful Sorry and Old Dreams) and one with David Scott of the Pearlfishers (Turn Like the World Does). Her debut, The Maudlin Years (released by Koch International) was cited by Elvis Costello as one of the “top 500 essential albums” in Vanity Fair Magazine.
Amy’s most recent solo album Sheffield Streets (Urban Myth Records) was produced by drummer, Don Heffington in Los Angeles and features Elvis Costello, Dave Alvin, Van Dyke Parks, Greg Leisz and other musical luminaries including her father, Mose Allison.
Amy collaborated on a collection of songs with singer/composer/multi-instrumentalist and producer David Scott, entitled Turn Like the World Does released in 2012. No Frills Friend and Everything and Nothing Too were also produced by David Scott in East Kilbride, Scotland.
Amy has co-written 4 songs recorded by Laura Cantrell including “Kitty Wells Dresses” the title song to her critically acclaimed album. Laura also covered Amy’s song “The Whiskey Makes You Sweeter” on her John Peel lauded debut album, Not the Tremblin’ Kind. Amy’s songs have been featured in films, most notably “Homefries” starring Drew Barrymore and “Virgin” starring Elizabeth Moss.
Amy has contributed vocals to releases by They Might be Giants, The Silos, Mudhoney, Neal Casal, the Pearlfishers, Mose Allison and others. Amy was featured on the acclaimed 2015 album Nursery Rhymes by Bill Wells & Friends.
In May 2015 Amy had the great honor of having her song “Her Hair Was Red” featured on the Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell album, The Traveling Kind, produced by Joe Henry.
